FALL SAINTS DAY is a family-friendly celebration of All Saints Day that includes a CHILI COOK-OFF, SAINTS FOOTBALL, and TRUNK-OR-TREAT! There is something for everyone.
For die-hard chili lovers, the meaty, saucy, sometimes spicy meal-in-a-bowl is practically a lifestyle. Few foods boast the contests, cultural links, secret ingredients and prized ancestral recipes that surround chili. It's not just for cowboys anymore.
CHILI COOK-OFF GUIDELINES
For this event, HOME STYLE CHILI is defined as meat or combination of meats (beef, pork, or turkey only), cooked with red or green chili peppers, various spices, and other ingredients such beans, peppers, onions, with a perfect blend of flavors. Thickeners such as flour or corn meal are allowed.
Pasta, rice, hominy, or canned chili are not acceptable ingredients
Over the past few years, a trend has bubbled up nationwide, particularly in places where you may not know your neighbors very well—or the houses are so far apart that everyone's ready to call it a night after just a few houses. Trunk-or-Treating is simple: a group of people get together, deck out their trunks with Halloween decorations, and let kids meander from car to car, collecting candy at each stop.
